Requirements

BusinessSuite is an SQL client/server database system, which means the database is stored and processed by a separate application.

BusinessSuite supports two SQL servers: Firebird SQL and Microsoft SQL. The choice of database platform is a major factor in performance, growth and implementation costs.

   

Firebird SQL is an open source relational database offering many ANSI SQL-92 features that runs on Linux, Windows, and a variety of Unix platforms. Firebird is an independent project based on the Interbase 6 source code released by Inprise Corp (now known as Borland Software Corp) on 25 July, 2000. Firebird is open source, which means there are no database engine licence fees. You can install Firebird on as many systems (or as many users) as required. Firebird SQL 1.5 is supported.
     
   

Microsoft SQL Server is a commercial database system available from Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft SQL Server is part of the Microsoft Windows Server. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2008 are supported.


Access to BusinessSuite is possible from both client workstations and the server - in the case of a single user the same machine performs the role of client and server. You will need to ensure that you have appropriate operating hardware to suit your environment.

For larger sites, BusinessSuite works optimally in a terminal services environment, where database bottlenecks are mostly eliminated due to the concentration of network traffic between the database server and the terminal server.

Workstation

BusinessSuite is designed to function on any modern version of Microsoft Windows. However certain hardware and software configurations will provide for the optimal performance of the software.

To operate BusinessSuite successfully, it is necessary for your machine to be set to four digit years.

Server

The database engines can be installed on any machine capable of running the database.

For Firebird SQL, the minimum specification matches the the Workstation requirements.

For Microsoft SQL, the minimum specification is dedicated to server hardware, as the Microsoft SQL database engine must be installed on a Windows Server operating system. This is commonly a Dual-Core XEON system with 8Gb of memory and hard disks configured in a RAID.

Terminal Services

BusinessSuite is optimised for terminal services on recent versions of the Microsoft Windows.

Setup in terminal services requires some tailoring to the multi-user nature of the server and is available from BusinessSuite support.
